Protect U.S. Haitians from Deportation

In the aftermath of the recent earthquake near Port-au-Prince Haiti, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is asking President Obama to grant temporary protected status to Haitians refugees living in the U.S.

Haiti is in a state of chaos, and there is no way that these refugees could return safely to their country any time soon. The streets are filled with debris and communication lines are down. Over a dozen aftershocks of magnitude 5 or higher have struck Haiti since the initial earthquake, and these are likely to continue for days. Granting Haitian refugees in the U.S. temporary protected status will also allow these refugees to work legally in the U.S. while they are here - thus allowing them to earn money to send back home to family and loved ones in desperate need to help.

These refugees should not have to "live in fear of having to immediately return to a country ravaged with devastation". Tell Obama to grant temporary protected status to Haitian refugees in the U.S.
Dear President Obama,

In the aftermath of the recent earthquake near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, New York Senator Kristen Gillibrand asked you to grant temporary protected status to Haitian refugees living illegally in the U.S.

Haitians cannot safely return to a country where streets are filled with debris and communication lines are down. Over a dozen aftershocks of magnitude 5 or higher have struck Haiti since the initial earthquake, and even more are likely to occur in coming days.

Granting Haitian refugees in the U.S. temporary protected status will not only protect people from being deported to a country that cannot take them in right now, but it will also allow these refugees to work legally in the U.S. while they are here - thus allowing them to earn money to send back home to family and loved ones in desperate need to help.

These refugees should not have to "live in fear of having to immediately return to a country ravaged with devastation". I urge you to grant temporary protected status to Haitian refugees in the U.S.
