We, the undersigned, request that Governor Corzine and the NJ Legislature act immediately to support the passage of Bill S 2093, introduced by Senator Sean Kean. This bill would appropriate the urgent funding necessary to prevent damage to public and private property, to protect public health, and to restore environmental health to Deal Lake.
Deal Lake is equal in size to all the Monmouth County coastal lakes put together . Yet, the lake has received disproportionate funding compared to the remaining coastal lakes. As a result, the lake has deteriorated to the point where its needs are now critical to its survival.
S2093 will provide $470,000 which will fund three vital projects which are the initial steps necessary to ensure the long term health of Deal Lake.
These projects are:
Flood Control(electrification of Flume Gates and Flume Protective Grate Improvement)
Public Health(study to identify sources of Human Fecal Coliform entering the lake via the Storm Water System)
Organic Material Removal(Hydro-rake 14 acres of lake bottom to remove 5 decades of weed and leaf buildup) .
Thank you for your support of this necessary Bill.
