When a man is accused of Rape and facing a lot of time in prison it is important for the court to make sure they are afforded a fair trial and is represented by a competent attorney. To protect the progress of the MeToo movement, which now gives women a platform to air their concerns, it is important for the court to Get It Right because if a person is convicted at trial and the verdict is overturned, it will make it very hard once again for women to report a Sexual Abuse crime. There was a time when women were afraid to speak-out because no one would believe them seriously enough to investigate their report. But thanks to the MeToo movement things are changing.
There is always going to be some one who is going to falsely report a crime for their own selfish gain, but this only makes it harder for honest women and girls to get justice for reporting a Real Sexual Abuse Crime. We cannot afford to go backwards when it comes to Women's Rights
What we are requesting from the Court is that All members of the Jelani Maraj Jury Trial be interviewed to assess if they talked about the case when instructed not to by the judge, and/or if they were guilty of convicting Mr. Maraj before the trial was over and all the evidence was presented. If the court finds his rights were violated we are requesting that the case be dismissed or a New Trial.
