Justice for Breonna Taylor

Breonna Taylor's life among many others have been wrongfully taken without justice. The individuals who have signed below demand change. We want to reduce the number of innocent lives lost to a broken relationship between the police force and the communities they serve. To do this, we have outlined a list of tangible changes that we believe deserve to be taken into consideration.

    We demand that:

The court reopens Breonna Taylor’s case
Police have longer training specifically in de-escalation training and racial bias training
Police should not be over-policing neighborhoods that are predominately made up of people of color
A clearer definition of the flagging* system should be made public
Flagging should lead to suspensions or firing depending on the severity of the action
Any and all plans to enact change should be shared with the public.

We believe these changes are needed because the police have fostered a sense of fear in communities of color. In order to rebuild trust, they must be held accountable for their actions and trained to protect the communities they work within.

*Flagging is a new system that the Louisville Metro Police Department has implemented in response to the murder of Breonna Taylor. The system “flags” any officer who has been accused of using excessive force. It is unclear if the system does anything more than add a flag to the officers record.
