FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE
When three young boys were found murdered & mutilated in the woods of West Memphis, Arkansas in the early nineties, police did what police sometimes do. They found a scapegoat. Three scapegoats.
These easy targets for the rage & contempt of a community were Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley & Jason Baldwin. Damien was a bit of a trouble maker around the town. He wore black shirts with depictions of heavy metal bands on them, listened to such bands as Marilyn Manson & had long dark hair. He was from a poor family.
In order to get their claws into Damien, the police went after his friend, Jesse Misskelley. After a coerced confession coming after hours & hours of interrogation, during which Misskelley was illegally denied legal counsel or the right to see his parents, he cited the names of the other two boys in the crime. He immediately recanted, but it was too late. The police & the community had what they wanted: three throwaway boys to blame this heinous crime on.
Jesse Misskelley is mentally handicapped.
It was 1993 when these three boys were arrested for a crime they did not commit. Despite heavy celebrity support, benefit concerts by the likes of Black Flag, HBO documentaries with scores by Metallica, revealing books & the never-ending fight of the defense teams, these boys remain behind bars. Damien Echols is on death row. The day these boys were arrested, six lives had been taken instead of three.
The WM3 need your help & support. They are innocent, & each of their cases deserves a new & HONEST review. It is inhumane & intolerable that we let ANYONE lose their freedoms in this way with no proof, with evidence pointing AWAY from them, & with a case that was "solved" so sloppily.
Right the terrible injustice. Free the West Memphis Three!

Don't be ashamed of mistakes of the past, be ashamed of your lack of action in the present!
