Stop the cuts of needed jobs in Tennessee Forestry
The state of Tennessee currently under budget cuts is planning to cut even more positions in the Tennessee workforce. In Morgan county the Division of Forestry has lost a fire plow position and to date it seems the state will plan to eliminate this position leaving Morgan County with only one fire plow to operate the entire county during extreme drought conditions. This is a time bomb waiting to go off for our county.
Many of you know that the division of forestry works hard to suppress wildfire in the county every year saving many homes and hundreds of thousands of acres of forest property both state and locally owned. This position cut will severely limit the division of forestry's ability to respond to and control wildfires in Morgan County resulting in a higher loss of timberland and possibly homes. Sign this petition and demand that the state not cut our needed fire control for our county. There are mush less needed positions in Nashville that can be eliminated in offices that wont impact our local fire control. Why should our county suffer such a loss while the offices in Nashville remain full?

Please take the time to read this petition from our concerned citizens of Morgan COunty Tennessee. We are gravely concerned that one of our local fire plow positions (FA2) is being eliminated in Morgan County leaving us only one operator during severe drought conditions. This will have a large negative impact on local fire control in a county that has seen many large and serious fires in the past years. Homes here are on the borders of forests and are in great danger from wildfires. Cutting this position will place these homes in danger as well as ensuring the loss of hundreds or thousands of acres of forested property each year.
Morgan county is greatly concerned that if we sit idly by and allow our wildfire control to be cut back to one operator only we will begin to see property loss due to the limited ability to respond and control fires locally. This cut will place current workers in even more danger as well. The current firefighters will be placed in even more stress knowing they are the last line of defense for our property and lives. Making them a skeleton crew is only adding the opportunity to have an accident. Please consider filling this position as soon as possible and keep our wildfire control intact.
