Colombia has made history. In a landmark decision announced at COP30, the country voted to protect 100% of the Amazon rainforest within its borders. This decision blocks new oil, gas, and large-scale mining projects across the entire region. Colombia represents just 7% of the Amazon, yet it chose to protect all of it, proving that bold leadership is possible even in the face of economic pressure.

Colombia has shown another path is possible: one rooted in environmental justice, respect for Indigenous peoples, and a commitment to life over extraction.

Sign now to demand that every country in the Amazon basin follow Colombia's lead and protect their share of the rainforest.

By declaring its Amazon a Renewable Natural Resources Reserve, Colombia has safeguarded more than 483,000 square kilometers of rainforest, home to extraordinary biodiversity and essential to global climate stability.c

The Amazon regulates rainfall across South America, stores massive amounts of carbon, and supports Indigenous communities and 10% of the planet's known plant species. Yet it continues to be carved up for short-term profit through mining, drilling, and deforestation, pushing the rainforest closer to a dangerous tipping point.

Colombia's environment minister made the stakes clear: the Amazon is one ecosystem. Its rivers, forests, wildlife, and climate impacts do not stop at national borders. Protecting only parts of it is not enough.

Sign now to demand that every Amazon nation protect its share of the rainforest, before it's too late.
