Charge a non-reusable bag fee at stores in Missoula County

The common disposable plastic grocery bag has worn out its welcome. These bags use petroleum to manufacture and end up in the landfill or waterways when they are discarded. Paper bags are no better. They require a lot of fuel to manufacture and ship, and of course a lot of trees. Installing a fee, say $.25 a bag will encourage people to bring their own bags when they shop and reduce the amount of carbon, waste and damage that our city contributes to this land.

Dear Mayor Engen,

Please help lead our great city in the right direction by limiting the use of "disposable" grocery bags. Cities like ours need to take charge to alter the old ways and instill the logical norms to move forward as a responsible society. Larger cities across the globe have taken this step and steps similar in order to reduce the impact we have on our environment and the consumption to which we have become so accustomed.
