There are more than 100 million sweatshop workers being exploited throughout the world today and it needs to stop.
Huge brands like Nike, Adidas and Burberry as well as many others are taking advantage of sweatshop labour to make the clothes that then sell like hot cakes in major retailers across the UK and other countries.
We call for the government to intervene and to put an end to this barbaric practise by forbidding the sale of any clothes made in sweatshops in any UK retail outlets.
Sweatshop labour creates cheap goods but there is a middle ground between this and high end bespoke tailoring that can be pursued in a way that respects basic human decency and the desire for reasonably priced clothing at the same time.
Workers in sweatshops are subject to appalling conditions – minimal wages, exposure to dangerous equipment and chemicals without appropriate safety measures in place and absurdly long working days are just a few of the things that make these places such awful places of work.
Not only this, but child labour is routinely exploited in sweatshops, with children as young as four or five being forced to work harder and longer than any adult would be reasonably expected to.
So, Mr Cameron, we implore you to do what you can to stop this terrible practise by banning the sale of any sweatshop items in the UK.
