Nairobi river has been polluted over years.''The murky black waters slowly and peacefully flows through the Kibera Slums. At the banks, great heaps of garbage aligns the river. Further downstream, pigs feed on the garbage in the river and along the bank, children happily play and splash around at the banks of the Nairobi River oblivious of the dangers the murky waters exposes them to. A paper bag whizzes past and slightly misses a bird perched on a floating garbage heap forcing the bird to fly away; landing squarely in the river. Somebody just did a 'flying toilet’ on the Nairobi River without even flinching! This is how the Nairobi River lives daily, from day to day.
