we take a strong stance against the death penalty, no matter where it is in the world. It is irreversible, can be used to target specific groups, carries the risk of wrongful execution, and gives a government the power to decide who lives and who dies. Many countries have already abolished capital punishment, recognizing it as incompatible with modern justice systems.
Sadly, we have become aware of a
new death penalty law that has just passed. This one outright
requires death by hanging for anyone accused and convicted of terrorism. And it doesn't apply universally: it applies only to one group of people, specifically to Palestinians convicted by the government of Israel.

It also carries other deeply disturbing elements. For example, the country's right-wing national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, recently took a video in front of a construction site where he claimed the
new hanging gallows will be located.
He boasted that the gallows will also include viewing areas where families of victims can watch the executions.This same man went on a podcast within only a week of that video, in which he urged more killings, stating a desire for "30 to 40 targeted assassinations per night."
He clarified: "Not just those who pose an immediate threat. There are people there who don't deserve to live. They shouldn't live. They're not even people."
Summary executions and assassinations, and the death penalty more broadly, do not belong in a modern society. It is a form of legalized torture and abject cruelty. We must leave these horrific forms of punishment in the past.
