So far in Australia over 1,700 homes have been burnt to the ground and many more will follow in upcoming weeks... and days.
At least 25 people have died and many still missing.
An estimated over 1.25 billion animals have died (1250 million) and counting...
New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria are burning. Australia is up in flames.
Bushfires are common in Australia, very much so that they occur yearly. But this is a different story. 10.7 million hectares have been burnt or currently burning — based on statistics from 8th January. That's way too many zeros to count.
These fires are some of the most lethal in Australian history. Earlier this year what can only be described as a "fire tornado" flipped over a 8-tonne truck. With winds this strong these fires are likely to continue to spread unless we take action immediately!
These merciless fires will stop at nothing and will kill people, wildlife and cattle alike and will not just stop at that. The figures are quickly rising and houses are burning as I speak. If we don't act fast the death toll will rise beyond belief!
The fires are so bad that in Canberra (Australia's capital), Sydney and Melbourne the sky is black with ash and soot. Even some of this smoke has blown 4,160 kilometres (2,585 miles) across the sea to New Zealand! If cities kilometres away are so smokey that it's considered hazardous to be outside, just imagine how bad the smoke is where the bushfires are! It's so bad that in certain areas you can't even tell the difference between night and day!
These people need our help. Please sign this petition to urge councils to set up donation boxes in public council-run facilities such as libraries. Please share this petition and ask your council/school to set up a donation box to help with fire prevention, recovering natural ecosystems & wildlife and recovering damaged and destroyed communities.
