Ask congress and the President to stop stockpiling oil reserves

  • par: Marilyn Neson
  • destinataire: Senators, Representatives, President Bush
Our Strategic Petroleum Reserve is the largest stockpile of government
owned emergency crude oil in the world.  The reserve currently stores 700
million barrels.  The Department of energy is currently addimg 70,000 a
day to this Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an attempt to double the
overall capacity.

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, would like to see a moratorium on the
addition to the reserve as long as the 90-day price of crude oil is at
least $75.  The Senate reublican leaders have put forth a similar plan.

Some members of congress disagree with expanding the reserve since oil
prices have reached the highest level in decades.

I agree with Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, the current practice of
stockpiling these reserves are the main reason that this and other
countries around the world are paying terrible gas prices at the pump.
They are also having to pay more for necessities such as food, clothing,
etc. as the gas prices continue to rise.

The American middle and lower classes are being forced into dire straits
by this practice to stockpile our reserves.  They can't afford to keep
their cars, homes, or families in food and clothing because of this
practice.

I urge you not to continue the practice of stockpiling our oil
reserves...release the 70,000 barrels a day that is being currently
stockpiled...give the citizens of this great nation a break with making
the prices at the pump lower to the level of $2.80 per gallon.

Lowering the stockpile and releasing oil will allow the American public to
spend more at our nation's retailers thus taking us out of the current
recession.

Thank you for allowing me to make my opinion heard.  You are doing a
wonderful job.  Keep up the good work for the little peole.
