Refine CCC&TI's Tobacco Use Policy

The Petition:

Refine the tobacco use policy for all CCCTI's campuses. Define areas on campuses that tobacco products are allowed to be used in. Define the tobacco use areas away from buildings, covered walkways, doorways, and high traffic walkways. Make the undefined areas of the campuses tobacco free. When hosting an event that allows public visitors on a campus, make that campus tobacco free during the event. Provide tobacco waste containers in the defined tobacco use areas on campus where tobacco products are allowed. Provide a form of shelter in the defined tobacco use areas on campus that will protect tobacco users from rain. Provide announcements regarding the change and future changes of the tobacco use policy so students will be aware of changes. Have faculty and staff regularly enforce the refined policy. *CCCTI is an abbreviated term for Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute.

The Reason:

This call for refinement is for the health and safety for anyone who attends or visits any part of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute.

"Research has generated evidence that second-hand smoke causes the same problems as direct smoking, including lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, and lung ailments such as emphysema, bronchitis, and asthma. Non-smokers exposed to cigarette smoke in the workplace have an increased lung cancer risk of 16–19%" -wikipedia.org
