Louisiana Zoo: Move Surviving Monkey to a Sanctuary!

Two endangered monkeys froze to death when a keeper at Alexandria Zoological Park in Louisiana accidentally left them outside in the cold. The small monkeys, called cotton-top tamarins, weigh less than a pound, and need temperatures of 76 to 85 degrees. Overnight temperatures in Louisiana were in the teens when the monkeys were left outside.

A third monkey survived the exposure, and is now forced to cope in captivity without its two companions. It was lucky to survive this time, but what if another zookeeper makes the same mistake?

Please sign the petition to urge Alexandria Zoological Park officials to do the right thing and transfer the surviving monkey to an animal sanctuary in a warm climate so it can live the rest of its life as nature intended.

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the recent death of two endangered cotton-top tamarin monkeys at your zoo. We understand that a zookeeper, who has since resigned, accidentally left them outside in the cold. The monkeys need temperatures of 76 to 85 degrees. Overnight temperatures in Louisiana were in the teens when the monkeys were left outside.

As you know, a third monkey survived the exposure, and is now forced to cope in captivity without its two companions. It was lucky to survive this time, but what if another zookeeper makes the same mistake?

We respectfully urge you to do the right thing and transfer the surviving monkey to an animal sanctuary in a warm climate so it can live the rest of its life as nature intended. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
