For some time, there have been efforts in stopping the use of live pigs and other animals as part of the Tulane University studies.  Although authorities at the school have shown an interest in choosing other non-animal options, we are still working to ensure that animals are no longer used for study, research and medical testing purposes.  Read more about this issue at http://pcrm.convio.net/site/MessageViewer?em_id=43161.0&.

Many facilities continue to engage animals as part of their school curriculum programs and the PCRM is looking for our support in stopping these practices.  The Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) at Tulane is designed to teach methods of treating acute trauma injuries and our goal is to encourage the school to engage in total non-animal methods of study. Using live pigs for these methods involves invasive procedures on live, anesthetized pigs and when no longer needed, the animals are killed.

Our efforts in this petition is to urge Tulane University to engage fully in non-animal methods of study and no longer ever use live pigs and other animals as part of their curriculum. You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.  We want to ensure that live animals are no longer used for such purposes nationally.

Dean of Schools Benjamin Sachs, M.B. – We ask that you permanently engage in non-animal methods of teaching, research and medical testing and avoid any use of live pigs and other animals for such purposes.
