Save the FREE SPIRIT TV SERIES from SA extinction on SABC !!!

FREE SPIRIT Feeds Hunger for Open-minded Spirituality
& Conscious Living !!!!

We the undersigned, hereby wish to inform you that we would look forward to all future episodes of the FREE SPIRIT TV series, which is currently aired on Sunday mornings on SABC 3.

The spiritual lifestyle magazine series, Free Spirit, celebrates South Africa%u2019s spiritual and cultural diversity and explores alternative health options in an entertaining, sometimes provocative, yet always non-sensational and embracing way.

Producers, Sharon Farr and Lee Otten, say that Free Spirit viewers represent the spectrum of South Africa%u2019s religious and spiritual belief systems.

%u201C Our viewers are eclectic by nature. What they love about Free Spirit is the broad diversity of topics covered and the show%u2019s non-judgemental approach. The audience comprises both mainstream believers and a growing number of people who have developed their own personal spirituality with coverage of alternative healing therapies, ancestral beliefs and the spirit world making Free Spirit particularly popular with followers of African traditional spirituality".

What has surprised the producers is how many people call in and email Shoot the Breeze after every show. %u201CWe get feedback from people living in cities, in rural areas and small towns all over South Africa and as far afield as Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria, Egypt and Zimbabwe", say Farr and Otten. %u201CSouth Africans from all belief systems are moving beyond just a tolerance of diversity. CALL TO ACTION !!!

We have been informed that the Free Spirit TV series (on SABC) will be coming to an end in September.

Since we, the viewers,  would like to see another series of this fantastic show next year, we humbly request that the SABC kindly reconsider its decision to put an end to a show that have been so  invaluable  to its thousands of loyal viewers and fans.

Since your position as the public broadcaster of South Africa binds you to the inclusion of one locally produced series that incorporates the rich tapestry of religions and belief-systems of South Africa, we hereby humbly request that you reconsider your intention to stop cease the future producton and broadcasting of this series.

It is our hope that this petition may illustrate our passion, appreciation and support of Free Spirit to all the relevant decision makers at the SABC.   We hereby request that you invest in the production of a new series of Free Spirit to be broadcasted during 2010 and beyond.
