Darren Seals, a prominent Black Lives Matter activist, was found dead inside of his burning car by St. Louis County Police around 2 am, Sept. 6. He had been killed with one bullet to the head before the car was torched.
Seals was a lead organizer in Ferguson following the shooting of Mike Brown. He was also a leading BLM spokesperson in the St. Louis area, and fought to educate people on police brutality, and for efforts to demand Democrats earn black voters’ support.
Police said they’re investigating the death as a homicide, motive unknown, with no suspects at present.
In late July of this year Seals tweeted:
"10 detectives pulled me and my 14 year old brother over, pointed guns on us, and told me "choose your enemies wisely"
When questioned by the media, the current lead investigator of Seals murder knew nothing about this event. The St. Louis County Police Department cannot be trusted with this investigation because of their history of racist police actions.
The FBI is charged with investigating civil rights and hate crimes. Justice demands that they conduct an independent investigation into the possible assassination of Darren Seals. The murder of this high-profile BLM activist demands federal action. Please sign and share this petition to urge leadership from the Attorney General and FBI Director Comey.
