Help Save Plantsville Elementary School's Name!
A Facility Naming Committee was recently formed to rename one of three elementary schools located in Southington / Plantsville, CT and Plantsville Elementary School is one of the choices. They would like to name the school after Zaya A. Oshana who served 34 years on Southington's Board Of Education. Although their intent is to honor Mr. Oshana, its strongly believed that there are alternatives other than renaming a school whose name has been in existence since 1874. Mr. Oshana had a passion to want to help the youth of Southington persevere in life and for that he should be honored and remembered. He had affiliation with a number of organizations, Southington High School Gridiron Club (charter member) and the Kwanis Club and the Southington Elks Lodge to name a few. Let's honor him by dedicating a school library in his name or a bench or monument in his name for all to see and be inspired by. Let's not change Plantsville Elementary School's name, which has been in existence for 145 years and is also located in the center of the Plantsville Historic District!
