Almost Half of All US States Have a Completely Unfair "Tampon Tax"

In 22 US states, menstrual products are taxed as "non-essential", even though they are literally essential to half the population. This completely unfair "tampon tax", as it's widely known, puts a totally unfair, unbalanced burden on people who absolutely need these products.

But the state of Texas just finally eliminated its tampon tax! The new law, SB 379, makes it illegal to tax period products such as tampons, pads, or menstrual cups. As an added bonus, the law also gets rid of sales taxes on other family care products such as diapers, baby wipes, and maternity clothing.

It is time for the state of Idaho to follow suit and stop punishing people for having uteruses!

Sign now to tell Idaho legislators to drop the tampon tax!

Studies have repeatedly shown that low-income folks struggle to afford menstrual products, which are quite literally a basic human necessity. One study found that almost two out of three poor women didn't have enough money to buy pads or tampons, and had to resort to using cloths, rags, or toilet paper to get by. No one should have to suffer the discomfort and hygienic risks of makeshift period solutions.

The problem is especially dire in Idaho, which has one of the highest tampon taxes in the country. The state taxes menstrual products at a whopping 6%.

All people with uteruses should have access to the menstrual products they need. Period.

It is time for the state of Idaho to drop its tampon tax! Sign the petition now if you agree!
