Donald Trump just issued a wildly irresponsible executive order to reduce the childhood vaccine schedule from 17 shots to 11, split the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine into three separate doctor visits, and give the DOJ the green light to go after states that dare enforce long-established vaccine requirements — all while amplifying the thoroughly debunked conspiracy that vaccines cause autism.
In Trump's world, it doesn't not matter that literally dozens of clinical studies covering millions of children have conclusively found no such autism link. Donald seems to think — in the middle of the worst measles outbreak in the country in 35 years — that exposing children to higher risks of infection by dragging out the vaccination timeline and making it less convenient for parents to inoculate their kids is somehow sound policy.

This isn't public health policy grounded in evidence — it's a cynical political calculation meant to play on the unfounded fears of voters animated by RFK Jr.'s decades-long grudge against immunization in general.
Even Republicans agree. Bill Cassidy, a physician and the chairman of the Senate Health Committee, slammed the decision, writing, "I'm a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The president does not have the expertise to make these changes." No kidding.
Our current vaccine schedule is already recommended and endorsed by every major pediatric and public health body in America. We simply cannot let an intellectually allergic president and his roadkill-collecting sidekick dictate federal health policy based on crackpot conspiracy theories. Kids' lives are literally at stake.
