This was America second independent day this was the day BLACK WERE FREED FROM SLAVERY. We celebrate a make believe Santa as a national day along with other nationalities days yet we have no day for this momentous day
Just a little insight on the day Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. We should recognize this as any other holiday and be allowed to embraced and enjoy this day. So I encourage all African Americans and friends of ones to sign this petition and let's move to make this an official holiday.
