Tell NSW Environmental Minister: Don't Brush Off Australians' Safety!
Hexavalent chromium went wafting over the houses of an Australian residential community after an accident at Orica chemical company resulted in a leak. But when NSW Environmental Minister Robyn Parker learned of the leak, she waited until the afternoon of the next day to warn people.
Now Parker is adding arrogance to indifference by dismissing a Parliamentary inquiry into her delayed response.
An upper house committee declared delays on the part of Orica and Parker to be "unacceptable," according to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, but Parker has waved off the committee's results calling the inquiry "unnecessary."
Tell Parker that her failure to warn Australians of the dangers of the leak warrants any investigation possible. Remind her that dismissing a Parliamentary inquiry is tantamount to dismissing the safety of the Australian people.
We the undersigned are flabbergasted that you would wait so long to report the dangers of a chemical spill to your public. Now you have added insult to injury by dismissing the committee formed to look into your irresponsible behavior as "unnecessary." It is time to admit that you did the wrong thing. Apologize to Australians who were put at risk by the Orica spill.
