It's no secret that greyhound racing is dangerous for the dogs forced to race. These poor pups consistently suffer from racing-related
injuries, neglect, and even death. They are also often
stuck in tiny cages with no interaction or socialization of sometimes
as much as 23 hours in a single day.And something is adding fuel to the fire, keeping this cruel industry alive: people are legally allowed to bet on the outcomes of greyhound races in the United States.
Luckily, legislators just introduced a game changer of a bill into Congress.
The Greyhound Protection Act (H.R. 5017) would not only
officially ban betting on domestic racing, but on international races, too.
Betting plays an essential role in propping up a horrifically abusive industry, and could seriously impact the amount of revenue that the races bring in -- and the number of viewers.
If greyhound racing becomes unprofitable, the unfeeling people behind it will have no reason to keep these dogs suffering.
Sign now to tell Congress: pass the Greyhound Protection Act now to ban betting on greyhound races!Because of the work of advocates shining light on its horrific abuses, greyhound racing has dramatically declined in the United States.
But there are still many races that take place in other countries, and these are propped up in part by the American gambling industry. Greyhound racing is clearly
greedy, abusive, and exploitative. These dogs deserve love and safety, not to be forced to run and suffer for humans' entertainment.
Banning betting on greyhound racing will deliver a crucial blow to international races! That's why we must urge Congress to
pass the Greyhound Protection Act now! Sign the petition if you agree!
