Renovate Coronado High School

Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas is in serious need of renovations. The school is in great disrepair and nothing gets repaired if it needs maintenance.

The newer buildings (D, E, and Fine Arts) are in great condition and do not need renovation, but the older buildings (A, B, C, some parts of the Gym) are in disrepair. In one of my classrooms in A building there's two holes in the ceiling that have been that way all semester. Last year, in the stairway leading to the classrooms above the gym, the stairway railing fell out of the wall and did not get repaired for weeks. The lab equipment in the science labs are outdated. I know for a fact that the chalkboards are made using asbestos and the floor in the Child Development Lab, where a preschool is held to give training to students who want to become teachers, used to have asbestos in it until it was replaced over the summer, which leads me to believe that the rest of the floors in the older buildings have asbestos in them. All of the bathrooms in the older buildings still have orginal fixtures in them. One bathroom is undergoing renovation, but it's taken months, and it is still not completed. In short, the school is not a suitable environment for students to work in.

Coronado is a Tier 1 school, ranks highly in academic competition and tests, has an award-winning music program, and enjoys great athletic success. The school is 55 years old and has never been renovated. It's a time capsule, but it's not conducive to learning.
