Homeowners in Brightside Commons pay $150 a month for services for their apartment complex. With 60 condos, this comes to 9,000 a month. What do these go to?! Not much. Our pool is very small, always dirty, and poorly maintained. The washing & drying machines are always broken (only 1 washer and 2 driers working at the moment). And the small amount of grass we have is cut twice a month.
Until recently, we had one of the worst parking lots in Baton Rouge (pot holes that would swallow cars), and this was fixed a year ago. Was it paid for by the $9,000 a month that goes to the homeowners association every month? No, our fees were increased that month to cover the cost. Some of the money goes to repainting the doors every year. Does this need to be done every year? No, but it makes it look like the association is actually doing something. They also put in bike racks a few years ago and had 7 people working on them for 2 days. Seemed a little excessive to put in bike racks. Also, if they do not want to fix the washing machines because someone keeps breaking into them (for the little money that is in them), then use that $9,000 a month to put a camera in to catch & stop the man who is doing it.  Or better yet make them free (would stop the theif from breaking into them for money), and would make a better use of the residents' fees.  I have been a resident/owner here for 5 years now, and I am tired of the poor "services" we get from the Brightside Commons Howeowners Association.
