In September 2016, I spoke in front of the Arnold City council to ask them to discuss and revise the Animal Codes to allow more residents to have backyard chickens.  There appear to be 2 council members in favor of discussing and revising the codes, but there is one member vehemently opposed, and thus, the issue has not been brought up in the council work sessions.  The code is prohibitive to most Arnold residents from owning any chickens.  While households can have numerous barking dogs they can't have a few chickens who are relatively quiet and non-troublesome.

Currently, Arnold City Animal Codes require a minimum of a 1-acre lot in order to keep chickens on your property. This code is too restrictive and prevents many households from having the benefits of raising chickens for food/eggs and for pleasure. Chickens very pleasurable to raise as pets and have the added benefit of providing a healthy supply of eggs!

During the past several years, other cities near Arnold have revised their animal keeping codes to loosen restrictions on lot-size requirements and the number of chickens that can be kept. Some cities have a minimum lot requirement of 0.25 acres; others no lot-size requirement at all.

It's important for the City of Arnold to revise its animal keeping codes at this time to match nearby cities' codes so that Arnold residents can enjoy the same benefits as their neighbors.

Please sign this petition and more importantly, contact the Arnold City Council members by phone or email to voice your support.

On May 11, 2017 the Arnold City Council voted to amend animal codes. Basically, the lot size restriction was lowered to minimum of 1/2 acre, maximum of 6 chickens with ability to have more chickens with larger lot sizes. This is a victory and progress towards continued reducing restrictions on keeping backyard chickens. Thanks to all who supported through the petition!!!
