Evict Tony Blair

Tony Blair is an unconvicted war criminal who swaggers around the world, making millions from personal appearances whilst passing himself off as a great statesman.

OK, as he's not been convicted of war crimes, it might be jumping the gun to call him a war criminal just yet. But along with George W Bush, he did launch an armed attack on Iraq which resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. The invasion was justified on the basis of a big lie to Parliament - that Saddam Hussein had 'weapons of mass destruction' which were only 45 minutes away from the UK. There is a growing movement to see Tony Blair arrested and tried for war crimes. One big step in that direction would be to get him kicked out of Britain's Labour Party. He led the party to victory in 1997 and was Labour Prime Minister when he sent our troops to Iraq.

The Labour Party remains a respectable organisation with a proud tradition of campaigning for workers' rights and a fairer society. Membership of the Labour Party gives Tony Blair a measure of protection and respectability he doesn't deserve. At the same time, he brings shame to a party which likes to think of itself as being based on principles of humanity and justice.

It would be good for the Labour Party, and for all of us, if Tony Blair were given a dishonourable discharge. This petition says ban him from party membership, ban him from party conferences and ban him from all Labour-controlled premises.

Such a move would not only make the Labour Party more electable, it would also take Tony Blair closer to his richly deserved position of international outcast.
