The Mutual Union of Tiv in America (MUTA) an association of Nigerians in the Diaspora, sent a petition to the House of Representatives (Congress) in Nigeria protesting against the killing of many innocent people in their community. Their Representative attempted to read the petition on the floor of the House but was shut up by the Deputy Speaker who claimed that any Nigerian not physically domiciled in Nigeria has no right whatsoever to send in petition to the House of Representatives. The entire Nigerians in the Diaspora were outraged, and calling for Alhaji Ahmed Idris Wase, the Deputy Speaker to resign.
