Support the Recommended Alignment of Toronto's Relief Line

Toronto's southern area, east of downtown is slated for tremendous growth and development over the coming years and decades. One of the most significant changes is the planning and construction of a new subway "Relief Line" to alleviate overcrowding on the Yonge Street side of the TTC's Line 1, and Bloor-Yonge Station in particular.

City Planning has engaged in a comprehensive review and consultation process to bring forward the best possible plan for the Relief Line to serve the needs of the city today, and to fulfill the demands of the future.

Toronto City Council, Executive Committee and the Mayor need to know that there is widespread support for the plan as recommended by City Planning staff; both across the city, and in the communities through which the Relief Line will pass.

Petition to Toronto City Council, Executive Committee and Mayor John Tory


WHEREAS:


City staff have recommended that "City Council approve the Pape-Eastern-Queen alignment for the Relief Line".


AND


City staff have recommended that "City Council request the Toronto Transit Commission and the City Planning Division to assess potential impacts associated with tunnelling and station construction during the detailed design phase of the project, and identify mitigation measures for private property owners, and conduct further public consultation where impacts to residential areas are identified, such as near Pape Avenue and Queen Street."


We, the undersigned, call upon City Council, Executive Committee, and Mayor John Tory to adopt the staff recommendations above without reservation or modification such that the planning process may proceed without delay.
