Keep San Diego a Sanctuary City!

California took a major stand against the Trump administration's immigration crackdown last fall when it became the largest sanctuary state in the country. Of course, the administration wasn't too happy about it, and filed a lawsuit challenging state laws that limit how much California cooperates with federal immigration authorities.

Now, San Diego County's all-Republican board of supervisors has just voted to support the lawsuit. As a Californian who used to live in San Diego, I am extremely disappointed in San Diego's decision to support the Trump administration's racist immigration policies.

Immigration is extremely important for a vibrant, healthy America. Counter to what many conservatives believe, immigrants actually contribute to the growth of the American economy, creating a better future for the next generation. Through entrepreneurship, immigrants create more jobs than they take, and they contribute more to social security more than they use.

Conservatives like to scapegoat immigrants, defending restrictive immigration policies as necessary to protect Americans against "criminal" immigrants, but the reality is that immigrants make this country stronger and sustainable for future generations to come. Arguing otherwise is just political posturing from Republicans riling up their conservative base.

Immigration is good for the country, the state, and for San Diego! Please sign my petition urging the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to keep San Diego a sanctuary city!
