Broken Bow, Don't Mix Guns With Yearbook Photos!

School shootings come without warning. It's a day like any other. Students walk through the school doors, and some of them don't walk out.

So it doesn't seem like a great time in United States history to be celebrating guns in school yearbooks. Nevertheless, that's exactly what is happening in Broken Bow, Nebraska where the school board has green lighted students to pose for their yearbook photos--armed.

Students in the Broken Bow school district may pose for their yearbook pics with gun or knife in hand. They may also pose with a dead animal that they just shot. Broken Bow is effectively glorifying weapons and violence with this policy. Please tell that school district not to let students pose for yearbook photos with weapons or hunting trophies.

Dear Broken Bow School Board:

We the undersigned are dismayed to say the least that, in an era of violence and school shootings, you are allowing impressionable students to pose for yearbook photos with weapons and dead animals. School shootings devastate families, neighborhoods, and schools for decades. Allowing students to pose for official school photos with knives and guns promotes violence. You should be doing everything you can to promote peace and non-confrontational solutions rather than weaponry. Please reverse your decision to allow armaments in yearbook photographs.
