Tell OHIP: Don't Deny Toddler the Chance to See!

Liam Reid is almost 3 years old, but he may never see the candles on his birthday cake. Liam was born with Persistent Fetal Vasculature Syndrome, an extremely rare condition that is causing him to go blind.

Fortunately, a world leader in treating the condition, Dr. Michael Tracy at Beaumont Hospital in Detroit, was able to restore some sight to Liam's left eye after surgeons at Ontario's Hospital for Sick Kids said they could do nothing more for him.

After spending $45,000 of their own money and unable to afford returning to Detroit for further treatments, Liam's parents applied to the Ontario Health Insurance Program for assistance. But OHIP turned him down flat.

Considering that another Ontario child with the same disease is receiving treatment in Detroit FULLY paid for by OHIP, this arbitrary rejection is downright heartless.

Tell Health Minister Deb Matthews to do the right thing and give Liam the help he so desperately needs before it's too late to save his sight.

Dear Health Minister Deb Matthews,

We urgently beg you to find a way to expedite Liam Reid's claim for financial assistance from OHIP.

We implore you to have enough compassion to do what is right for an innocent child with a devastating disease.

Little Liam rightly deserves your immediate help. To drag your feet on this issue while he loses his sight needlessly is cold hearted, if not downright cruel.

Thank you.
