Tell the Army Not to Put Chelsea Manning into Solitary Confinement for Attempting Suicide

On July 6, an unnamed Army official leaked news to the media that Chelsea Manning had attempted suicide while serving a 35-year-sentence for disclosing documents pertaining to American military operations to Wikileaks.

Now, the Army is threatening to sentence Chelsea to additional solitary confinement for her prison term - possibly for the rest of her entire sentence.

“Now, while Chelsea is suffering the darkest depression she has experienced since her arrest, the government is taking actions to punish her for that pain. It is unconscionable and we hope that the investigation is immediately ended and that she is given the health care that she needs to recover,” said ACLU Staff Attorney Chase Strangio in a statement.

Solitary confinement, especially after a suicide attempt, is cruel and unusual punishment - and should not be tolerated, especially by the military.

Sign this petition to urge the Army not to put Chelsea Manning into solitary confinement an to treat her mental health issues humanely.
