Make Mental Health education compulsory

Mental health is a very serious issue in modern day society, especially amongst the younger generation. 1 in 10 young people will suffer from a mental health issue before they reach their 16th birthday. It is estimated that 1 in 12 University students have contemplated suicide. Moreover, 1 in 10 young people are thought to have self-harmed at some point: a statistic that is rising.

These statistics, shocking as they are, could be reduced if there was a more extensive policy on educating young people about mental health. By raising awareness for these issues, we would be able to remove some of the stigma concerning the topic in general. This would make it a lot easier from those suffering from mental health issues to be able to speak about them and seek help. This would be crucial in preventing the rise in self harm and suicide rates stemming from mental health issues.

With enough support, we could make it so that mental health doesn't have to be such a vague and difficult topic for young people to broach. With your help, mental health could finally be addressed in the classroom, and within our society.

Thank you.

To Nicky Morgan,

Please implement changes to government policy concerning the education of mental health, making it compulsory within schools.

Thank you
