Bear cubs are taken from the wild only to live a cruel and tortured life. The young bears are declawed, their teeth removed or filed down, have a metal ring put through their noses and are tethered to a stake in the ground by a rope. As a form of paid entertainment they are visciously attacked by dogs, two to three at a time, as 'training exercises', in public arenas or backyards. Black bears are known for their shyness, and usually stand up, trying to cover their faces. They often go blind and die. Not only is this extremely cruel for all the animals, it promotes violence in society. The AKC condones this behavoir as it has affiliations with some of the breeders. This has to end immediately.
Dear Governor Nikki Haley,
I am extremely concerned about the fact you allow the cruel form of paid entertainment of Bear Baiting/Baying in your state. Your state is the only state in America that allows this. This is also practiced in Pakistan, and as an American it is embarrassing to know you endorse this behavoir. I understand this also promotes violence in society. As a woman, how can you condone entertainment that promotes violence against any animal, especially one that is at a huge disadvantage because it is known it cannot defend itself? Bear Baiting/Baying needs to become illegal now!
