For the last 8 1/2 years, The Colbert Report has been a vital part of the American news media landscape. The Colbert Report has reflected American media, using parody and satire to poke fun at American life. It has also highlighted problems with our politcal culture, such as when Stephen Colbert formed the Colbert Super PAC and made plain how incredibly broken our democracy has become.
On April 10, 2014, Stephen Colbert accepted the job as the next host of The Late Show, taking over for David Letterman. While this is a great achievement for Colbert, the end of The Colbert Report could be a great loss for America. America NEEDS shows like The Colbert Report; with Colbert moving on it's clear that the show must go on with a new host. The best person for that job is Samantha Bee, currently senior correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. She has the background in improv, the commitment to character, and the plucky charm to take this established news-talk parody in a new direction. She's also dropped 3 kids on the world so there's some nice unpaid labor for the show.
Comedy Central, you know you can't put Chris Hardwick's "@midnight" on at 11:30. Jon Stewart, you know what this lady can do. News parody at 11:30 must continue! Let it be BEE!
