Hospitalized Mental Health patients Rights

My son was a patient at a mental health facility and while there they accused him of a crime and now he is facing possible life in prison. He was suicidal that's why I had him put in there for treatment and in past had him put in other facilities close by but always was released unstable in a couple of days. He never had a chance to actually be stabilized to have a chance. He was under their care since they are the supposedly qualified staff but they don't want to take responsibility, I'm sure afraid of law suit.I know my son is innocent but it's not that easy and if they would have been more efficient at their job and keep individual separated from the rest until stabilized adequately my son wouldn't be sitting in a jail cell dealing with this case. I'm praying God gives him his freedom. He needed his medication and help not a unqualified staff that doesn't want to take responsibility. Patients need longer stays to get medicated and stabilized and qualified staff working there. There needs to be changes in the mental health system, my son should not be charged with anything he was under their care because he wasn't capable of making decisions at the time is why they had suppose to of been making them for him.
