Direct online democracy by encrypted vote is in our future. It practically eliminates the political corruption so evident in our billion dollar elections. If we can bank online safely, purchase items online, pay our taxes and if government and private institutions can communicate safely online, we should be able to vote online with safe encryption. No voting system is 100% safe, but online voting can be made to be much safer than voting with tampered voting machines and paper and mail-in ballots that are easily "lost". We can keep copies of our votes, or pay a penny per vote on a credit card to have a paper trail. We can even propose laws and have them voted on. Voting from home or office will also greatly increase voter turnout.
Online voting will remove most if not all the encumbrances and corruption in our electoral system. This form of direct democracy has been used successfully in countries like Switzerland and Iceland, giving the first one of the highest per-capita incomes in the world and the other good government, free of debt. Our electoral system is badly broken and direct online democracy is the way to fix it.
