Reo Speedwagon formed in 1967. Legendary and iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin joined founding member Neal Doughty in 1972 along with iconic guitarist Gary Richrath, drummer/co-founder Alan Gratzer, and bassist Gregg Philbin. Current bassist Bruce Hall replaced Philbin in 1977. Since then the band has gone on to record over a dozen albums and sell over 40 million records.
The band has had 13 top 40 singles, two of which were #1 singles. The band's legendary 1981 album Hi-Infidelity sold over 10 million copies giving it the highly coveted diamond award which is one of just over 100 albums ever. Reo Speedwagon was a 1980's powerhouse with #1 song in 1981, Keep on Loving You and 1985 with Can't Fight This Feeling. REO Speedwagon was also the FIRST MTV CONCERT!
REO Speedwagon arguably created the "power ballad" with the fine lyrics of Kevin Cronin and craftsmanship of Gary's Les Paul guitar. They have popular songs in genres ranging from pop-rock to heavy rock. The band has had a consistent lineup of five memvers since 1989 and continues to tour tirelessly to this day. Guitarist Dave Amato and drummer Bryan Hitt joined in 1989 helping to keep REO's classics alive.
Even if you are not personally an REO fan you can't deny their success and their accomplishments alone warrant their induction into the Hall of Fame, which is LONG overdue.
