Steðji Brewery: Don't Sell Beer Made From Whale Meal!

Iceland's Steðji Brewery, in partnership with whaling company Hvalur, is launching a beer that they claim contains whale meal. The brewery says the beer is healthy because of whale meal's high-protein, low-fat content, and describes the beer's drinkers as "true Vikings."

Brewery owner Dagbjartur Ariliusson plans to sell the beer during the Icelandic mid-winter festival, which will take place from January 24 to February 22.

It's bad enough that traditional cured whale fat will be sold at the festival. Adding a whale-meal beer to festival offerings is excessive, and an insult to these magestic animals. Whale-meal beer is not a traditional part of Iceland's culture, and with fewer people choosing to eat whale there is no reason for the product to exist. It is reckless and immoral to kill an endangered whale to make a novelty beer. Please sign the petition to ask Steðji Brewery to discontinue their plans to sell whale-meal beer.
