Protect the rights of Individuals with an Intellectual Disability

Individuals with an intellectual disability are amoung the most vulnerable members of our communities. Inclusive communities actively welcome and support all their members.
Many individuals with an intellectual disability still do not receive appropriate supports for a meaningful education and thus are ill prepared to live a life with dignity and respect in thier community alongside their peers. Many (too many) still spend the majority of their lives in segregated settings (not of their own choosing), are denied their autonomy and true citizenship, and the vast majority are un or under employed and live in poverty. With appropriate supports individuals with an intellectual disability can have meaningful lives in, and be contributing members of, their community.
