Dear Mr. President;
America put a man on the moon; America can find solutions to prevent “Fatherlessness”
Fatherlessness is the most significant family and social problem facing America today according to 72.2 % of the U.S. population. With your leadership we can solve this ever increasing problem. I am Glenwood Warren, Founder and Executive Director of Fathers Forever, a nonprofit organization in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wake County. We have a proven process that helps fathers chart a new course of fatherhood and break the destructive cycle of fatherlessness.
On May 25, 1961, President Kennedy urged Congress and the country ‘to accept a firm commitment to a new course of action”. He was talking about the need for the space program and its funding. It took a President’s vision and an act of congress to fund efforts to put a man on the moon. Now we are asking you to urge Congress, state and local agencies to accept a new course of action and fund efforts to eradicate fatherlessness. We are not asking for government run programs, but for government to fund programs, for we the communities will do the work and bear the burdens of its success.
Imagine life without the technology we now enjoy because we dared to put a man on the moon. Now imagine what life would be like for millions of children if their fathers were willingly fulfilling their responsibilities, paying their child support and more involved in the lives of their children. There are proven Responsible Fatherhood programs like Fathers Forever that can make this happen.
Mr. President, your Strong Fathers, Strong Families Initiative is an impressive beginning, but we need much more. Our unique Fathers Forever program has reached fathers in and out of jail and after our 24 week program their attitudes toward child support has turned to responsible and loving behaviors, with a better understanding that fatherhood begin at conception. Now we are in need of funding to help them find work, job-training, reeducation etc.
In closing, Fatherhood is the foundation of our families, our society, our America. If our foundation is cracked, everything that is built on it is compromised. President Kennedy shifted his efforts in the space program from low to high gear and today we ALL are enjoying the awesome benefits’. We the communities are asking The White House to shift it attention to high gear in the funding of fatherhood programs.
