We, the community, stand with the 1525 Dorchester Rd Tenant Association in demanding that their landlord, Samuel Leifer, make necessary repairs, provide consistent heat and hot water, extermination, a brand new front door and intercom system. We, the community, demand that he de-lead and treat the building for mold, and make the necessary repairs to the tenants' apartments, including dangerously sloping floors, holes in the ceilings, and defective window frames!
In February 2019, Sam Leifer was cited to meet with city inspectors in regards to extensive HPD violations that have been reported. Leifer also received a Stop Work Order (SWO) for electrical violations at 1525 Dorchester Rd.
Tenants have been denied consistent heat and hot water for over 10 years, which is a Class-C HPD Violation.
Tenants have reported to the Tenant Association that there are ongoing issues with mice, roaches, waterbugs, and other pests due to the lack of consistent, building-wide extermination.
In addition, tenants have complained about apartments testing positive for lead as well as mold that has been untreated for over 10 years
Tenants have also complained about the lack of skilled and licensed workers who come to make repairs, including for plumbing and electrical issues.
Tenants have complained to Samuel Leifer for the immediate need to replace the front door, the front inside door and to install a working intercom system and to fix the mailboxes.
Many tenants have gone without any repairs to their apartment in over 10 years.
Tenants do not want the side lawn adjacent to 1525 Dorchester to be used as a parking lot any longer. The gas fumes from cars come into the building and engulf the apartments. Additionally, tenants are being woken as early as 6 a.m. due to the car engines.
We, the community, stand with the 1525 Dorchester Rd Tenant Association and demand that Samuel Leifer begin to rectify these issues immediately!
