Keep America's Wireless Network Competitive

At a time of escalating demand for wireless access to the Internet, American consumers need a more competitive wireless industry. Competition leads to innovation which leads to better service and lower prices. Small business and regional providers have been locked out of the wireless market, unable to offer affordable wireless services to their customers. Limited competition has also resulted in vast areas of our country where Americans are unable to take advantage of the benefits of high speed wireless service due to poor coverage or significant cost.

The past two administrations and officials from both sides of the aisle -- Republican and Democrat -- have called for action to expand the availability to high speed Internet access in our country.

Tell Congress that broadband penetration and spectrum scarcity are serious issues that must be addressed today.
Dear [Decision Maker],

As a constituent, I am writing to urge you and your colleagues in Congress to help address a serious crisis facing our country's ability to remain competitive in a global economy. While other nations around the world have invested in the 21st Century technologies critical for fueling the next wave of technological innovation and economic prosperity, America has fallen behind.

Other areas are plagued by dropped calls and weak signals. America's wireless infrastructure is congested and getting more congested every day. Smart phones consume 24 times more data on average than a regular cell phone and tablets consume five times as much network capacity as a smart phone. In 24 months, we will reach our nation's spectrum limit at just the moment our global competitors continue their economic rise. American already ranks 15th in globally in delivering broadband and if we don't act soon, we will continue to fall farther and farther behind.

The past two administrations and officials from both sides of the aisle -- Republican and Democrat -- have called for action to expand the availability to high speed Internet access in our country.

There are options available today that will both expand broadband access and address the spectrum crunch. American companies have developed technologies such as a wireless 4G broadband network integrated with satellite service that will cover the entire nation and help meet the tremendous demand for mobile data while creating jobs, increasing consumer choice, and reducing the cost of mobile data plans. Such solutions can make spectrum available now, avoiding the spectrum crunch looming in 2014.

Unfortunately, some special interests are blocking the most promising solution to America's broadband crisis. In the process they are leaving Americans without a viable option to solve our country's spectrum crunch.

We must act now. Innovation cannot be stifled because of poorly designed technology or vested corporate interests. As a voter in your district, I urge you to support the rapid development of a new wireless broadband network that will provide your constituents with better access, greater choice, affordable prices, and more opportunity. As a concerned citizen, I have joined with many other of my fellow citizens to support the efforts of www.WirelessForAmerica.org -- a group dedicated to solving America's broadband crisis.

I hope you will join us as we work to build the modern communications network all Americans deserve and our country needs to remain competitive.
