Fight Poverty in Afghanistan

After eight years and 17 billion dollars, Afghanistan is still one of the poorest places on Earth with nearly half of all Afghans living in poverty. International support has improved Afghans' lives, but we still have a long way to go.

We need to think about development based on Afghans' needs rather than on military objectives and exit strategies.

In 2010, a series of summits will take place between foreign ministers, Afghanistan's President Karzai, the UN and NATO leaders to plan the way forward in Afghanistan.

Join the fight against poverty in Afghanistan. Tell Secretary of State Clinton to implement development plans based on Afghans' needs and ownership rather than political and military objectives.
Dear Secretary Clinton,

Join the fight against poverty in Afghanistan. I call on the heads of states to implement development plans based on Afghans' needs and ownership, not on political and military objectives. It's time to renew and increase our commitment in Afghanistan by focusing on poverty reduction.
