No one should risk losing basic human rights simply because of who they love.
But in many parts of Europe and neighboring countries LGBT people still face harsh discrimination, a lack of fundamental human rights, and even outright violence.
In the face of such inequality the European Union has a responsibility and a unique ability to push for equality around the world for LGBT people.
The ALDE Party is fighting for LGBT equality throughout the European Union. Now it's time for all member states to take a stand as well and make equal and fair treatment for LGBT citizens a requirement for any state seeking to join the EU. In doing so, they can strike a great blow against homophobia and inequality.
Take action today for equality across Europe: Urge EU Leaders and the European Commission to defend equality and promise they will prioritize a requirement for LGBT rights in any countries who seek EU membership in the future.
