Tell Congress: Fix 340B Now!
A recent U.S. Senate investigation shows how 340B has become a profit generator for big, tax-exempt hospitals, national for-profit chain pharmacies and middlemen at the expense of patients, taxpayers and employers.
We urgently need reforms to improve transparency and accountability in the program.
Join us today, and tell your member of Congress to bring much-needed oversight to 340B to curtail abuse and stop hospitals from marking up the cost of care at expense to all Americans.
Dear Lawmakers,
As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to prioritize comprehensive reform of the federal 340B program.
The 340B program is broken. Big, tax-exempt hospitals and clinics are abusing this program to charge huge markups on medicines – as much as 1000% or more – to boost their profits at a cost to us all. This hospital markup program generates billions in profits with zero requirements that hospitals help patients.
I urge you to champion comprehensive 340B reform that:
- Requires hospitals and clinics to directly lower medicine costs for vulnerable patients, not just boost profits
- Establishes a clear patient definition to stem abuse and ensure the program is targeting those who need help most
- Reins in large hospital abuse of the program, putting in place clear and enforceable eligibility standards that require increased levels of charity care at all sites of care
- Prevents pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and large pharmacy chains from profiting from 340B at the expense of patients and safety-net providers
As a member of the Energy & Commerce Committee responsible for oversight of the 340B program, I am counting on you to bring urgent reform to the program. Please prioritize holding 340B hospitals and clinics accountable.
Sincerely,
