Help the Morris Family

The Morris family is in desperate need for a home that is suitable for their two severely ill children.
Imagine if you will, being a mother or father of not one, but two chronically ill children. It’s not a place most of us want to go or could even imagine going. Although sad and hard to even imagine, this is the reality of a good friend of mine, Amy Morris and her husband Timmy.

Amy and Timmy live in Lancaster Kentucky. Their daughter, Maddie, who is 7 years old, is currently recovering from open-heart surgery. Maddie was born with a congenital heart defect known as ASD. Maddie’s Mom refers to her as their “ray of sunshine” and if you met her, she is just that. She’s a beautiful child inside and out and has so much compassion for life.

Their son, Tuff, suffers from severe chronic Asthma and severe allergies. His asthma is the biggest concern at this time because it is causing him relentless problems. In the past several months Tuff has been taken to the emergency room at least once a week because of labored breathing and attacks that his parents were not able to control at home. Just recently his doctor all but demanded that they move out of their current residence in order for Tuff to refrain from suffering these life-threatening asthma attacks.

From the outside, looking in, they appear to be an ordinary family, but when you take the time to hear their story and feel their struggles, they will seem a little more extra-ordinary.

In the past several months they have endured a lot and overcome much more. Yet, there are still many concerns for their children’s health that eat away at them on a daily basis.

One of these major concerns in the fact that they have been told by doctors that they need to move into a house that is newer and with other restriction, which include but are not limited to no carpet and no basement. Of course, as his parents they will do whatever it takes. But with little to no credit and one income it’s hard to find something that meets these restrictions. At this time they are struggling to find something that they can rent that not only meet these restrictions but that they can afford. This family is constrained to one income due to the fact that Maddie has to be home-schooled because of her heart condition.

Not long after Maddie’s open-heart surgery she found out some very exciting news. Maddie had been chosen by the Make a Wish FoundationÒ to receive a wish. Like most little girls her age, she wished to go to Disney World and Sea World. In October, Maddie and her family will do just that. In the meantime, her family is left with the worry that they may need extra spending money. But on top of the medical bill, the house issue and other daily struggles, this is almost too much for them to bear.

In the upcoming month, I am asking that the community come together to help this wonderful family. If you can donate or know someone who could help, it would be more than appreciated. But more than just donations, we must band together to try to help them with their living arrangements. It is imperative to the life of their son that they move. If you have any connections or know anyone who can help them, PLEASE reach out.
