Tell the World Bank that Solar Is the Key to Ending Energy Poverty

Energy poverty is a serious issue worldwide, and off-grid decentralized renewables like solar home systems and renewably-powered mini-grids offer a promising solution for people with little or no energy access.

With 80,000 solar home systems installed every month in Bangladesh, it's easy to see why investment in solar energy is rapidly growing.

Despite all this growth, public institutions have still not stepped up to provide the investment these companies require to truly scale their efforts, leaving millions of families in the dark.

Send a message to the World Bank today!
Dear World Bank,

Energy poverty is a serious issue worldwide, and off-grid decentralized renewables like solar home systems and renewably-powered mini-grids offer a promising solution for people with little or no energy access. Current investment flows do not prioritize small scale off-grid decentralized interventions to address energy access.

Our current reliance on grid extension or large-scale centralized solutions will leave more than one billion people living without access to modern energy services by 2030 according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). In fact, the IEA has found that half of all energy services will have to be provided by off-grid clean energy investments in order to deliver universal energy access by 2030.

The World Bank has an opportunity to improve the efficacy of its energy access work. Therefore, we, the undersigned, urge the World Bank to create a $500 million fund to support off-grid renewable energy projects that could alleviate energy poverty worldwide.

Sincerely,
